MONTHLY TRAINING TIP
Touch & Form Drill (Variation - Off the Dribble) - Skill Execution: Sharpening and Developing Proper Footwork necessary to establish a sound foundation for an on balanced high percentage shot. This particular drill is also excellent for developing a players ability to go from strong evasive ball handling to snapping the ball into what is termed in basketball terminology, "the shooting pocket", very quickly and accurately off the dribble...then finally this drill establishes a players touch, form, and shot rhythm which is essential in high percentage scoring. Other Skill Developments include: fast paced passing & catching and fluently handling the basketball, training the mind to always
receive the basketball in a athletic position "but down, palms up" position or "triple threat position"...ready to read and react...attack. Executing the drill initially from 8-10 feet will provide for an immediate psychological boost in shooting confidence...this is of course the purpose. Finally, this drill will train the player to shoot the basketball into a 45 Degree window with a 44-46 Degree Margin of error. Increased Hand/Eye coordination is also a great result of this multi-faceted drill. Variations: Conduct from different spots and ranges on the floor. Change the cadence of ball handling aspect i.e "behind the back, behind the back", "Between the legs, Between the legs", etc. etc.. Time them for shots/per minute, mark their hit to miss ratio. Seeing the ball go in over and over again will give your player supreme confidence and success expectation...programming the sub-conscious mind for success everytime the player shoots the ball. Establishing unshakeable confidence. -Coach Alonzo Motley
